Girls who act in misogynist ways just to be one of the ‘guys’ and prove everyone how different they are from other girls.
Besides the fact that this post is hilarious, this issue bugs me too. But it’s complicated. Women who embrace that misogynist bro culture use it as an outlet for their own self-loathing. We all punish ourselves in different ways. But constantly seeking validation from the groups that hate you and will never respect you is especially tragic and self-defeating. I hope people in that position can realize it someday and learn to love themselves instead of seeking acceptance in hateful places.
These pictures are of the Japanese street style called Ganguro.
Wanna know why Ganguro kicks ass?
It’s a rebellion against the Japanese beauty standards of pale skin, dark hair, and natural looking makeup; young women alter their appearances to directly oppose a limited concept of beauty.
so… they’re trying to look like white girls that tan too much?
More like they’re in step with the ideology of the (original) punk movement and are doing whatever the fuck they want to and looking however the fuck they want to, regardless of socially constructed standards of behavior/appearance
people who shit all over ganguro/gyaru fashion with “eww too tan they look like rainbow bimbos!!! etc” make me kinda mad ‘cause
you don’t find it personally appealing or attractive? that’s kind of the point. they’re not dressing the way they do to be seen as appealing to others, and I think that fucking rules.
"too tan rainbow bimbo" yay ppl r talking about me
Another reason not to look down on Ganguro is that it doubles as a defensive measure against train molesters (a serious problem in Japan). Gropers are more likely to attack a plain-looking, black haired girl because they expect her to be more submissive and not fight back. Girls who dye their hair or dress in wild fashion are considered too aggressive looking.
But seriously though, to the person who thinks they look like ‘white girls with too much tan’, these aren’t white girls. These are Japanese women actively taking back their right to look however the fuck they want. They don’t have to be dainty and plain looking and pale to be pretty and their use of tan to make the statement ‘darker skin on a woman of colour is beautiful’ is way different from the white person use of ‘we think darker skin on white women is nice but POC should still be pale if you want to be in our media’.

the sexist Frozen quotes are so embarrassing to read as an animator… i’m a feminist but i’m also an animator and i know people who think like this. i totally get the ‘off model’ too, like i’ve received notes plenty of times to make a female character look…
